The purpose of the Swedish Vallhund Versatility Program is to recognize dogs and owners who train and compete in different types of dog sports, showcasing the versatility of this breed to do many things well. While there are many organizations other than AKC that host dog sports, the SVCA Versatility program only recognizes AKC titles and those that can be submitted to AKC for recognition (such as Barn Hunt).
This program is open to all Swedish Vallhund owners, a certificate is sent to anyone who meets the requirements for a level. Members of the SVCA also receive a beautiful plaque, with their dog’s name and titles engraved on the plaque to mark the achievement.
The program is composed of 6 categories of activities and 5 Versatility levels. Points are accumulated by category and are not cumulative within a category. In other words, if your dog has a CD for 5 points and a Rally Master for 10 points, the Rally Master 10 points would be counted from Category 2. You would not count the CD and the RM. The same holds true for the miscellaneous category – only one activity with the highest points will count. So if you have a BCAT for 1 point and Trick dog advanced for 3 points, only the TKA would count towards a versatility level.
The categories of the program group some activities as noted below.
Category 1 – Conformation Category 2 – Obedience, Rally, Canine Good Citizen Category 3 – Tracking, Barn Hunt, and Scent Work Category 4 – Herding Category 5 – Agility Category 6 – Miscellaneous – includes flyball, coursing, Fast Cat, Therapy, Trick Dog, Dock Diving and Farm Dog
The chart showing the number of points for each title can be found here.
