Thank you for your interest in SVCA rescue. We are a non-profit program for purebred SwedishVallhunds whose mission is to find good homes for dogs in need of a new forever home.
To adopt a rescue Vallhund, we have a process that includes a completed application foradoption, interview, reference check, written permission from landlord (if renting), and a homeinspection (if possible). This process is to ascertain the commitment of the interested partiesand to make sure each dog will not end up back in the rescue program.
Because we do not know what each dog has been exposed to, they will be in rescue 3 weeks(including prior shelter care and foster care) so they can be assessed for any medical orbehavioral issues. The dog will be vet checked, including blood work or fecal exams, vaccinated, and groomed upon entering our foster program. The dog will be temperamenttested and evaluated to make certain they are placed in the best possible new home. Dogs willbe spayed or neutered prior to leaving for their new home.
There is an adoption contract and liability waiver agreement. The adoption fee is $400 plus anyunforeseen expenses such as shipping, heartworm treatment or other medical expenses. Eachcase is handled on an individual basis.
There is no way to estimate how long it will take to have a dog for you. There may be a longwait to make sure we match the right dog to your family. Once we get your application, yourname will be placed on a waiting list. If you no longer wish to be on file or if you have gotten adog elsewhere, please let us know so we can take you off the list.
Occasionally we may get in an older dog (over 7yrs) or one with “special needs”, which usuallymeans needing special medication or care. These are difficult dogs to place and are offered ata reduced rate of $100, plus transportation, if needed, to special caring homes.
Please do as much research as you can and try to meet Swedish Vallhunds in person to ensurethat this is the right breed for you and your family. This will be your companion for the rest oftheir lives.
